CELPIP writing task One, Sample question with answer.

Your nephew has just graduated from high school with excellent grades. He was the brightest student in his class. However, he wants to start working now and does not consider going to college.

Write an email to your nephew in about 150-200 words. Your email should do the following things:

Explain how you feel about his high school grades.

Explain why going to college is necessary.

Explain why working instead of perusing college education is a mistake.

Dear Eric,

Hearing about your school graduation with excellent grades makes me immensely proud of you.  I feel an unimaginable delight going over your result. Be that as it may, submitting applications for a job position at this early stage in your life seems like a premature decision.

The significance of higher education in our today’s technically advanced society cannot be ignored. This is helpful in both academic and professional world. The time you spend in college will help you grow your intellectual dimensions. Besides, acquiring new skills and improving your qualifications would only

be possible in a scholarly atmosphere. Not to mention the academic network and friendships that will positively affect your professional life.

Furthermore, taking up a job at this age could have numerous negative outcomes. To start with, you might not get a decent pay check that would help you secure a better future. Higher responsibilities at work and better remuneration generally requires a college degree which you would be lacking. Moreover, in the long run, you will see your friends who continued their degree having a more successful career, which will always make you regret.

I am sharing this with you as I have seen many young and successful professionals who graduated out of college before taking up a full time job.

Yours,

John Allen
