It happened with me while I was working for a corporate company in USA, one of the employees working in my team was about to be lose his job due to low performance and the management had almost made up their opinion.

The employee walked up to me and said she is scared of losing the job and also informed how badly she needed the job. She basically was requesting me to try and save her job.

I could feel that she was willing to put in better efforts to improve her performance, I spoke to the human resources team and suggested we give this employee some more time, while the management had their own reasons to believe that the employee has been given enough time, I took it upon myself and suggested that I wish to work on her skills for next 90 days and that should improve her performance.

The management agreed and I took it upon myself to re train the employee and things changed, The employee showed tremendous improvement and went on to become one of the most successful employees.

I don’t think it was difficult to train the employee, it’s just that she did not understand the basic concept of the work assigned to her, once she learnt it, the job became easier.
